Welcome and opening recital - Megumi Masaki
MUSIC 4 EYES+EARS – interactivity - piano, vocals and other sounds.

A unique opening recital featuring compositions written in the last three years. Megumi specializes in exploring how sound, image, text and movement can be integrated in multimedia works.Her work promises to expand and re-conceptualize the concert experience.

Recital with Einar Steen-Nøkleberg
Einar Steen-Nøkleberg has become a summer school 'regular' - "A pianist of limitless imagination and sensitivity."

We eagerly await his performance tonight of Bach Goldberg Variations.

"There is no greed or a desire for fame. Perhaps this is why the listener feels that the pianist is playing specially for him, seated nearby."

Two piano recital with Bobby Chen and Douglas Finch
An exciting 2 piano recital to round of the 1st day of the 2018 course. The imaginative programme includes a work by Douglas and also the much loved Rachmaninoff 1st suite.

Ronald Stevenson memorial recital
The Ronald Stevenson recital was established in 2015 with funds generously donated by the Stevenson society. This year we welcome pupils from Chetham's school of music to perform a varied selection of Ronald's piano music.

Recital with Leon McCawley
Leon McCawley, one of Britain's foremost pianists, has forged a highly successful career since winning 1st Prize in the 1993 International Beethoven Piano Competition in Vienna and 2nd Prize at the Leeds International Piano Competition. A former pupil at Chetham's, we are delighted that Leon returns again to the summer school.

Composer in Residence - Emma-Ruth Richards
We are thrilled to welcome Emma-Ruth Richards as 'composer in residence' on the 1st part of the summer school. There are two evening recitals featuring both solo piano, instrumental, voice and chamber music works. We welcome the Zelkova string quartet who are performing in both recitals.Emma-Ruth is also giving workshops and teaching throughout the week.

Concerto Evening
In 2018 there will be 8 piano concertos performed across the two weeks featuring two local orchestras and the conductor Stephen Threlfall.
Following on from the huge success of the complete Beethoven concerto cycle in 2017, we welcome back the Stockport symphony orchestra tonight.

 In part one the programme features Seta Tanyel in the Warsaw concerto by Addinsell and Leslie Howard in Tchaikovsky concerto no 2.

Concerto Evening
In part two of the concerto evening, we welcome Dina Parakhina and Philip Fowke.

Dina begins with Rachmaninov Variations on a theme of Paganini. The final concerto is the popular Grieg concerto in A minor, with Philip Fowke as soloist.
