Peter Lawson

Peter Lawson was born in Manchester and studied there with Derrick Wyndham and Sulamita Aronovsky. He now combines a performing career with teaching at Chetham's where he is also a Careers Advisor. Peter is an examiner for the Associated Board (and a member of the Jazz Panel) and has been an external examiner and adjudicator for the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, Birmingham Conservatoire and the University of Huddersfield.

Alongside regular appearances throughout the UK and for Radio 3, Peter has played in France, Belgium, Holland, Italy, Denmark, Japan and the USA, and as a soloist with the RPO, RLPO, Hallé, London Mozart Players, London Sinfonietta and all the BBC regional orchestras.

Peter Lawson plays from an extremely wide repertoire, from the classics to jazz but he has a particular interest in early 20th century American and contemporary British music, acknowledged by the award of a prestigious Churchill Fellowship to the USA in 1993. He regularly shares his experience and expertise with presentations to groups such as the ISM and European Piano Teachers Association. His commercial recordings presently include :-
